Liverpool 2–2 Manchester United: Amad Rescues a Point in Thrilling Anfield Clash

Amad earned the equaliser as Manchester United came back to greet the Premier League leaders (Liverpool) at Anfield in their 4-2 recovery draw after three-game losing strike. Liverpool 2–2 Manchester United
Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Brighton Hove Albion on Saturday gave Liverpool a chance to go eight points clear at the top,
but Arne Slot’s hosts started slowly in freezing conditions and fell behind to Lisandro Martinez’s second-half strike.

Cody Gakpo netted a swift equaliser before Matthijs de Ligt’s handball
allowed Mohamed Salah to put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot,
but the hosts were far from their best and were pegged back late on.

The man behind United’s 2-1 win at Manchester City a month ago, Amad,
slotted home with 10 minutes to go and helped the beleaguered Red Devils take a well-earned point.

With the draw Ruben Amorim’s team rises up to 13th in the table above West Ham United
and Liverpool are in a headlock with Liverpool six points ahead of the second-ranked Arsenal with a game in hand.

How the match unfolded

Liverpool went close to scoring a brilliant team goal in the 14th minute,
but Gakpo flicked wide after great approach play from Ryan Gravenberch,
before Andre Onana thwarted Alexis Mac Allister at his near post.

United constantly threatened down their left-hand side as the home fans grew frustrated.
Amad was unable to direct his header goalwards from a cross by Diogo Dalot and
Alisson was forced to make a sprawling one-on-one save to keep out Rasmus Hojlund.

Seven minutes into the second half, United led from another attack down that flank.

Trent Alexander-Arnold\’s lost ball was cleared by Martinez who then played a through ball
to Bruno Fernandes before shooting into the crossbar.

United’s advantage only lasted seven minutes, as Gakpo, with a most peculiar quality,
turned De Ligt on the left border of the penalty box before smashing into the top right corner.

Eleven minutes after, Alexander-Arnold’s cross was headed on by Mac Allister into the outstretched arm of De Ligt,
with Michael Oliver officiating the penalty after a pitchside VAR check, which enabled Salah to coolly score.

However, Liverpool could not press home their advantage as substitute Alejandro Garnacho raided down the left to tee up Amad,
who tucked his low finish beyond Alisson.

Conor Bradley struck the corner of the post but better chance to find the ball for United,
Harry Maguire somehow getting over a gaping net in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
